Deacon Blue - Win

Phil writes: This new Deacon Blue single is up there is almost on a par with their best work I think.  It reminds me a bit of the Tom Baxter song 'Better' which deserves to be much better-known:

skip forward 2 mins 30 seconds to see Shirley Bassey making Tom Baxter her own

Joe writes: Then she sings his wonderful song Almost There. It wasn't written for her but it might as well have been. And it's better than the new songs that were written for her (or the few I've heard anyway).

Boyzone have covered Tom Baxter's Better

Joe writes: Boyzone always had a knack of picking great songs to cover, although I must say their cover of Better didn't live up to their glory years on first listen. Good song though. Have a listen to Tom Baxter's original instead, as featured on this blog last year.

(iTunes)

this song is great

I thought I'd written about it before but it seems not.

Total smash. Almost perfect.

Better by Tom Baxter - iTunes

I liked some stuff on his first album too - Almost There particularly (iTunes) - but Better is a cut above.
